Every year on September 27, to present the issues of tourism worldwide, and educate the global community about the importance of tourism, its social capital, cultural, political and economic world tourism day aims.
The date of September 27 was chosen in reference to the September 27, 1970, the date of the adoption of the Statutes of the World Tourism Organization.
In 2014, the Mexican organizing this World Tourism Day. In 2015, it was the turn of Burkina Faso to be the official host. The respective themes "Tourism and community development" for the JMT in 2014 and "One billion tourists a billion opportunities" for the 2015.
